MINUTES
April
21, 2008
We would like to welcome new members and
special guests, Layne Cameron, Steve Goodman from the City of
Anderson, and the Ball State students continuing their class
project. Great big thanks to all who helped Kim prepare the news
letters for mailing.
Minutes: The minutes for the meeting of
March 17, 2008 were approved.
Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s
report was approved. The audit committee needs to review the
budget.
MALLARD LAKE BILL: The bill passed by
the Indiana State Legislature dealing with the Mallard lake
situation has been signed by the governor.
Crist updated the group on the possibilities
brought before the White River Watershed Alliance meeting. Crist
had three suggestions;
A community service clean-up of Moss Island including
honeysuckle remediation.
A clean-up of the new trail system through the
Delaware dump
A clean-up of Kilbuck Creek and other tributaries of
the White River.
Current Business:
Ball State Public Relations Student Project: The
survey is done, however the presentation isn’t ready.
Final report and recommendations: Kevin will bring
back the final recommendations. The students will be reimbursed for
all cost related to their project.
Earth/Arbor Day: the event begins at 10:00 AM. Judy,
Sheryl, Kim, Crist, Kevin and Phil will be there.
Will have reusable bags to hand out. Will also have
Wal-Mart and Meijer re-useable bags to hand out.
Sheryl will organize a clean-up of Shadyside Park
Trail. Sheryl made a motion to buy pizzas for the kids that
volunteer. Judy seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Sheryl made a motion to reimburse John for gloves.
Judy seconded the motion. The motion carried.
June 14th is a full clean-up. It will be
scheduled as a mini clean-up if canceled.
Volunteers will put in at Canoe country in Daleville
and will take out at Walbridge Park. Registration will begin at
8:30AM.
Kim will be in charge of the T-shirts.
Sheryl will write the new release.
John will get trash bags.
Sept 13th will be a full clean-up. We will
solicit involvement from Anderson University students if possible.
It was suggested that we clean from Mounds State Park to Edgewater
Park. It might be possible to add a leg from Edgewater to River
Bend
Delaware County will be doing their clean-up the same
day. Robbie will be able to provide canoes for both events.
There could be two pull out points and walkable
portions.
The River Celebration will be July 26th at
Edgewater Park. The float will end at River Bend Park and can be
considered part of the MS4 for the city of Anderson.
There will be a sub-committee report from bill, Crist,
Sheryl and Ginny.
Kevin suggested underwriting the cost of canoe trips
for schools, church groups, etc. that might not have the funding to
cover such costs.
The Adopt-A-River portion of the White River should be
a mini-clean-up. It might be possible to do this during the May
city wide clean-up.
Trent Pell from the Madison County Council of
governments (MCCOG) has designed maps of the White River through
Madison County. Links will be used so MCCOG can update the maps as
necessary. They are in a PDF format for easy download and
printing.
Student scholarships, essay contest and photo contests
were discussed.
Steve Goodman explained MS4 requirements. This
includes water quality sampling, reporting, educational activities,
public outreach and participation. He invited everyone to a rain
garden workshop on May 13th at the city building.

adjourn.
