MINUTES

Feb 18, 2008

The White River Watchers would like to thank all those who attend the meeting!

Minutes:  The minutes for the meetings of January 21, 2008 and November 19, 2007 were approved.  The minutes for November 19th were written by Sheryl Myers.

Treasurer’s Report:   The treasurer’s report was approved.  Kim passed out the proposed budget for 2008 which included the financial statement for 2007.

New Business:

*      The budget for 2008 was approved.

*      We received a $1,000 donation from the City of Anderson as a part of the city’s MS-4 activities.  We can use this for river clean-ups and education.

*      Alan suggested working with Canoe Country (Robbie) to assist local groups such as the scouts or youth groups that might want to clean up a portion of the river.  We could pay or the dumpsters and canoes to help subsidize clean-ups for those organizations without sufficient finances.  We should invite Robbie to a meeting to discuss the proposal in more detail.

*      Kim suggested doing the Adopt-a-River portion during the city-wide clean-up.

*      We need new pictures of our clean-ups on water proof paper to be used for displays.

*      Layne Cameron is beginning a resurrection of the clean-up effort in Delaware County.  He would like a formal commitment from the WRW involving the use of our equipment, our time, etc.

*      Kevin and Kim visited the class that the Ball State Students are enrolled in.  The students have suggested the areas to concentrate on now are increasing membership and developing ways to educate the community.  The students are completing the initial background literature research.  The generational differences were discussed as was the need to attract younger members.

*      Crist had to leave and was unable to discuss the status of the West Trail.

*      The need for maps of the White River (on our web-site) as it runs through Madison County was discussed.  It was suggested to contact the Madison County Council of Government (MCCOG).

A motion was made, seconded and approved to adjourn.
