Minutes: The minutes for the meeting of
May 19, 2008 were approved.
Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s
report was approved.
June 8, 2008 Clean-Up
The clean-up scheduled for June 8, 2008 was cancelled
due to high water and turbidity.
Jim Rich will price shovels from Big Lots and other
stores for use in our clean-ups. He will check on other tools as
well.
We can use the celebration on July 26, 2008 as a
clean-up.
Board members discussed possible dates for mini
clean-ups.
There was also discussion about alternative dates for
our June clean-up since it has been rained out frequently.
There was discussion about having only one large
public event each year.
July 26, 2008:
River Celebration
Edgewater Park is reserved for our July 26th
river celebration.
It was suggested 25 canoes and 10 kayaks would be
appropriate. This needs to be discussed with Robbie.
Sheryl volunteered to pick up the displays in lieu of
Crist’s son’s accident.
We passed around a get well card for Crist’s son who
was critically burned in an accident while at work.
We agreed on a charge of $10 per canoe/kayak.
T-shirts would be free to those who pulled debris from the river and
$5 for those who didn’t, but wanted a shirt anyway.
There should be a port-a-potty at the beginning and
end of the float. Sheryl will arrange for a port-a-potty.
Kim will bring a generator and be reimbursed for fuel.
We discussed having a deposit for the canoes and poker
chips to make sure the tools are returned.
September 13, 2008 Clean-up
We need to tell the Upper White River Watershed
Alliance where we are going to clean-up so there will be more media
coverage possibly including helicopters.
We discussed the slogan Keep it Clean-up.
It is time to reconfirm if our waste hauler is
recycling the debris that can be recycled.
We could have the debris sorted by community
corrections
We should still come up with ideas for guest speakers
New Business
The Anderson Parks Department wants to have a summer
camp for water/river stewardship. They wanted to know if the WRW
would commit to some time.
The KCCA will be setting up a fishing contest on
Summit Lake. It will be a catch and release event. There is a
penalty for fish that die. There is no live bait. Contestants
catch five fish. The largest combined weight wins.
There was discussion about assisting with the expenses
of a clean-up by community groups. Judy and John made a motion
seconded by Sheryl to underwrite up to $200 for a maximum of three
groups. These groups should be school or church related. They
should have at least 5 canoes dedicated to the clean-up.
A motion was made, seconded and passed to
adjourn. |
