White River Watchers -Minutes from Nov. 19, 2007
Minutes of the Oct. 15 meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer’s report: Kim reported our balance to be $51,949.45, including a $28,650 donation from the Sportsman Conservation Club.
New Business:
Elections for 2008 Officers:
President - Kevin Kenyon
Vice-President - John Johnson
Treasurer - Kim Rogers-Hatfield
Secretary - Judy DeLury (Sheryl Myers, assistant)
Christmas Party: Will be on Dec. 17th at the Emery Lee Building, Alexandria. Meat and coffee will be provided; members need to bring a covered dish. Ted Bennett and Ruth are invited and will be presented a life-time membership. We agreed to buy a gift card for $25 and a poinettia for $25 to be presented at our Christmas dinner. We also discussed creating a Ted Bennett Award, or planting a White Oak in his honor.
Kim called for articles for the newsletter.
In old business: The City of Anderson received a Brownfield grant that will place a large amount of money in a revolving loan fund.
We discussed what to do with our large donation. We could get 4.47% for a 10 month CD at First Merchants. We need to leave at least $2400 in checking, and will need to buy t-shirts at our next clean-up. We also discussed creating a Sportsman Conservation Club Education Scholarship award.
Other old business:
*The fish restocking program has had excellent results.
* When it comes to transportation at our next clean-up, we will not
be able to use school buses because of state legislation
preventing their use for other-than-school functions.
* We discussed the invasive Asiatic carp.
* It has been observed that the west end of the new river trail is incomplete and is presently a mud bog, with sedimentation of the river an ongoing threat.
* We voted to present Charity’s Angels with a $100 donation.
* Bill Evans will check into scheduling the meeting room at the library.
